Image of ROHM's Infrared Laser DiodesROHM Semiconductor's infrared laser diodes are used in applications such as motion sensing, gesture control, 3D depth sensing, laser printing, and more. These infrared diodes are available in 850 nm, 840 nm, 820 nm, and 780 nm wavelengths with the industry-standard Φ5.6 metal stem. The "laser" in laser diode is an acronym for "light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation". It is also referred to as a semiconductor laser and generally abbreviated as LD. The rectilinearity, monochromaticity, coherence, condensation, and pulse response characteristics of laser light allow them to be used in optical discs (optical pickups: OPU), laser printers, multi-function equipment, and more. Particularly in recent years, laser diodes have been increasingly used as light sources for triangulation, ToF (time of flight), LiDAR, and sensing applications. Recently, semiconductor lasers have been used for motion sensing, HDD thermal assist magnetic recording, and lighting (projectors and headlamps). ROHM offers a broad lineup of laser diodes optimized for a wide range of applications.
