Photomicrosensors

Omron optical sensors, also known as Photomicrosensors, detect the presence or absence of an object, along with the speed or direction of a rotating object. These sensors offer high frequency response, high reliability and long life. Choose among reflective or transmissive types with different slot widths, sensing distances, configurations, and mounting styles.

Omron's Photomicrosensor is a compact optical sensor that senses objects or object positions with an optical beam. The transmissive Photomicrosensor and reflective Photomicrosensor are typical sensor types. The term "Photomicrosensor” is an Omron product name. Generally, the Photomicrosensor is also called a photointerrupter. Most people may not realize that Photomicrosensors are built into machines and equipment that are used every day.

Applications

Transmissive

The transmissive Photomicrosensor incorporates an emitter and detector that face each other. When an object is positioned between the emitter and detector, the optical beam is interrupted, causing the detector to react to this change in optical energy.

• Slot width ranging from 1 mm - 15 mm
• Termination Styles include: surface mount, through-hole. wire leads, and connector
• New screw mount types can detect in the X, Y and Z plane

Reflective

The reflective Photomicrosensor incorporates an emitter and detector that face outward. When an object comes into range, the optical beam sent out by the emitter will reflect off the object and back towards the detector, causing the detector to react to this change in optical energy.

• Sensing distances ranging from 1 mm - 5 mm
• Termination Styles include: surface mount and through-hole

Actuator

The actuator Photomicrosensor effectively incorporates a customer-supplied mechanical actuator onto a transmissive-type Photomicrosensor. As an external object makes physical contact to the actuator, it will either block/unblock the optical beam, causing the detector to react to this change in optical energy.
